Relentless on attacking you when it comes to the troop building part. So yes you can make units and control a few variety. you also find yourself alone sometimes too with your hero in campaign. hit and run is a great tactic.. Quite good game, what is impresive is how many units on screen this game can handle, like hundreds of them and still go smoothly :). Great RTS/RPG/fantasy game from 2006, unfortunately running on Windows 7 we desynced after about 30 minutes playing two heroes versus two AI's. Also not very many maps which is a very minor issue. Really wish the publisher would release an enhanced version for Windows 7 and up. I like this game enough that I have multiple CDs, the GoG version, and the Steam version. Worth getting for at least the single player game play and I thought we had the GoG version (should be identical to Steam version) working in the past without desync issues but not certain the mix of hardware, might have been some or all Windows XP.. Boring, slow paced and broken. Go ahead, buy it and play it, but keep the cheat codes handy. The first level is so awful it puts most players off. Every description of the game sounds great, but so many thing work against this being a playable game. The character movement speed is really slow. Even cheating with speed potions, it takes many minutes to move across the map to deliver gloves to a specific merchant for the key to progress. In some levels you only get a squad and you have no hope of beating the monsters. If you can get it for a dollar, don't.. this game is right Up my valley. What if there were modern arms in medieval, fantasy times. They created an interesting plot-hook.. but never followed through. This was, apparently, planned as a trilogy and they went bankrupt after publishing the first part.The RPG-part of this game is collecting loot and leveling up your character (one Character but 3 paths to follow: Mage, Ranger and Warrior). With every level that you advance you can choose to increase a statistic (no skill), like damage, movement speed or the likes. If you don't like the two opportunities, you can choose to wait this time but the next level up you will get a far greater range of changes. The system I liked but that's it for RPG, because the quests are all: Go and kill something for reasons! Get Coins or Loot as reward! Just clearing out the entire map is more fun because of all the hidden stuff you can find(special gear, potions that give permanent changes to statistics).At about two occassions (might even be three), you can control a second hero character. I gave her all the stuff I didn't need and never played her again after that. The RTS is like in Spellforce but only with one race and a bit more clumsy. The resources are placed sometimes a bit random but luckily, you don't have to play this to often. In my playthrough I had to build a base on maybe 4 or 5 occassions. If you are thinking about buying the game because of the story, don't do it, there is none besides the usual "Find magic artifact that saves the world" and everything else is just decoration. If you are looking for a game similar to spellforce .. buy spellforce, because this game is too limited in this regard. ___Got hooked on the story but it never evolved. Gameplay is "meh" at best and tedious at worst. Difficulty on normals was at the second half of the game non-existent (played as a mage character).___Rackhim. It has more Diablo style game playing than a strategy.And building a base is almost impossible.Enemy spawns quickly and attacks again and again.That really annoys me.Best strategy I developed is just to rush to enemy base and take out all the buildings.And even I am annoyed I can't stop playing :)
